Lefty November 13th, 2006

My name is David “Lefty” Leibowitz, and I do most of my work at the intersection between technology and marketing. I live in Brooklyn, NY with my wife Emily, our dog Champ, and our cat Molly. Contact me at david at endeavor43 d 0 t c 0 m. Check out my resume on LinkedIn.

Current Projects:

  • Figure Four Media: My new side project is an interactive marketing agency specializing in web-based video and .tv site builds.
  • Donut Emperor (AKA Brooklyn Donuts): I’m obsessed with donuts lately.
  • Gotham Girls Roller Derby: The roller derby revival league I helped found in 2003 and for which I still enthusiastically provide live play-by-play announcing. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you really should - it’s just about the coolest thing ever.

Past Projects:

  • Jinx Multimedia: My web development company that I co-founded and ran for five years. We did great work for clients like JANE magazine, IBM, Schering-Plough, Victoria’s Secret, and many more.
  • Jinx Magazine: The magazine of worldwide urban adventure.
  • Materialite: “The single source for the online green consumer.” This site was pretty much Etsy for environmentally-friendly consumer goods. I worked with students at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program to enter Stern’s annual business plan competition with this. We were a semi-finalist in the social venture category.
  • Invisible Frontier: The urban exploration book based on Jinx Magazine and published by Random House.
  • The Athenaeum: My club for debates and discussion of adventure. The torch is now being carried by Todd Seavey’s political debates and LB Deyo’s Dionysium in Austin, TX.
  • Prince Lefty & His Ramblin’ Kings: My honky-tonk country band, for which I played pedal steel guitar from about 2000-2006.

Hobbies:

  • Ice Hockey: I play every week up in Lasker Rink in Central Park, and sometimes at Chelsea Piers.
  • Surfing: I try to get out to some of the spots on Long Island, but it’s been tough lately. Last year I went down to Costa Rica in the winter, and before that we went to Rincon, PR.
  • Pedal Steel Guitar: The pedal steel guitar is that weepy-sounding instrument that you hear on all the old country records from the 50’s and 60’s.
  • Upstate New York: The last few years Emily and I have been taking trips up to the Northern and Western Catskills region, and we’re hoping to try and get a place up there at some point before too long.
  • Karaoke Wrecking Crew: The ultimate in karaoke competition.
