I am of the opinion that classic mariachi music is one of the great underappreciated genres of all time. This clip of Vicente Fernandez singing “Volver Volver” proves that I am right.

Dave the Spazz, who DJs my favorite radio show on WFMU, put together an awesome program of insane honkytonk 45’s this week. There were songs about murder, suicide, drunk driving, hating hippies, Vietnam, abortion, incest, and just about every key topic you’d ever want to hear in a country music number. (Emily points out that the show did not include any songs about nuclear apocalypse or being in a mental hospital. For those topics, I recommend Johnny Paycheck’s You’ll Recover in Time and The Cave.)
